Offer Configurations

Choose if you need shared or custom offers

After choosing your offer type (one-time or recurring), you'll decide how to structure your offer based on what you're selling and how complex your business rules need to be. Vrio offers two configuration approaches: Custom Offers for maximum flexibility with one specific item per cycle, and Shared Offers for streamlined management of multiple items with consistent rules.

Understanding the Difference

The configuration type determines how many items your offer can sell and what level of control you have over different aspects of the customer experience:

  • Custom Offers: Sell one specific item per cycle with full control over complex configurations
  • Shared Offers: Sell multiple items using the same billing and shipping configuration ( formally known as Dynamic Items )

This choice affects pricing flexibility, cycle progression options, item management, and configuration complexity.

Custom Offers

Sell one specific item per cycle with full control over complex configurations, including the ability to change configurations between billing cycles.

How It Works

  • Each offer cycle is tied to exactly one item (with its variations, if any)
  • Full control over pricing, billing, shipping, and automation for that specific item
  • Can have multiple cycles with completely different configurations
  • Maximum flexibility for complex business models

Best Use Cases

  • Trial-to-Paid Models: Start with one item/price per cycle, transition to different item/price
  • Cycle-Specific Pricing: Different prices for first month vs. ongoing months
  • Product Progression: Change the actual item delivered in different cycles
  • Complex Billing: Different billing frequencies or rules across cycles
  • Unique Configurations: Items requiring special shipping, pricing, or automation rules

Key Benefits

  • Maximum Flexibility: Complete control over every configuration option
  • Cycle Progression: Can change items, pricing, billing frequency between cycles
  • Unique Business Models: Support for complex subscription models and transitions
  • Granular Control: Fine-tune every aspect of the customer experience
  • Testing Capability: Easy to A/B test different configurations for the same item

Configuration Options

  • Multiple Cycles: Each cycle can have different items, pricing, and billing rules
  • Cycle-Specific Items: Switch between different items in different cycles
  • Flexible Pricing: Different pricing strategies per cycle
  • Billing Changes: Modify billing frequency between cycles
  • Custom Automation: Cycle-specific responders and business rules

Shared Offers

Sell multiple items using the same billing and shipping configuration. Customers can choose from your item selection, but all items follow identical business rules.

How It Works

  • One offer contains multiple items that customers can choose from
  • All items share the same billing frequency, shipping rules, and business logic
  • Simplified configuration - set rules once, apply to all items
  • Single cycle only - no progression or changes between renewals

Best Use Cases

  • Product Families: Related items with consistent pricing and shipping
  • Subscription Boxes: Multiple item options with same monthly billing
  • Service Tiers: Different service levels with same billing rules
  • Seasonal Collections: Multiple seasonal items with consistent fulfillment
  • Simple Product Lines: Straightforward offerings without complex rules

Key Benefits

  • Simplified Management: Configure billing and shipping rules once for all items
  • Consistent Customer Experience: All items follow the same business rules
  • Easy Item Management: Add or remove items without changing offer configuration
  • Streamlined Operations: Single set of processes for all items in the offer
  • Scalable Growth: Easy to expand product selection within existing offer framework

Configuration Options

  • Multiple Items: Include as many items as needed in a single offer
  • Item-Specific Pricing: Each item can have its own price within the offer
  • Variation Support: Items with sizes, colors, or other variations
  • Consistent Rules: Same billing, shipping, and automation for all items
  • Single Cycle: Simplified lifecycle without cycle progression

Examples

Coffee Subscription:

  • Monthly billing at $24.99/month
  • Items: Light Roast, Medium Roast, Dark Roast, Decaf
  • Customer chooses their preference, all follow same monthly delivery

Supplement Selection:

  • Quarterly billing at $89.99 every 3 months
  • Items: Multivitamin, Omega-3, Vitamin D, Probiotics
  • Customer selects their supplement, all ship quarterly

Software Service Tiers:

  • Annual billing with different price points
  • Items: Basic Plan ($99/year), Pro Plan ($199/year), Enterprise Plan ($499/year)
  • All follow same annual billing cycle

Limitations

  • Single Cycle Only: Cannot have different configurations for renewals
  • Shared Rules: All items must follow the same billing and shipping logic
  • Limited Flexibility: Cannot customize experience per item beyond pricing
  • No Progression: Cannot transition customers between different configurations

Setup Process

  1. Create your offer with shared configuration
  2. Add multiple items to the offer
  3. Set item-specific pricing if needed
  4. Configure billing and shipping rules (applied to all items)
  5. Set up automation and business rules (applied to all items)

Next Steps

Once you've chosen your configuration type:

For Custom Offers:

  1. Plan your cycle progression (if using multiple cycles)
  2. Configure billing timing for each cycle
  3. Set up pricing logic for each cycle
  4. Design your customer management strategy

For Shared Offers:

  1. Select and configure your items
  2. Set up billing timing (applied to all items)
  3. Configure pricing logic for item selection
  4. Plan your shipping strategy

Remember: This choice affects your operational complexity and customer experience. Custom offers provide maximum flexibility but require more configuration management, while Shared offers simplify operations but limit customization options.
